Expression of Interest are invited for Data Collection on Social Norms in Nepal The World Bank Group is conducting a study on social norms in Nepal, which will seek to investigate the extent to which social norms affect women's participation in the labor market and migration decisions in selected regions of the country, as well as identify innovative approaches, based on international good practices, that could help to address/alleviate some of the main social norms. The diagnostic study will include conducting qualitative focus group discussions, followed by a quantitative survey to help identify: a) the prevalence of social norms and norm-following behavior; b) the likely mechanisms maintaining the social norms; and c) the most promising potential policy interventions to weaken/circumvent social norms. The World Bank Group is looking for an experienced data collection firm in Nepal to conduct this study, which will involve administering 15 focus group discussions and implementing a quantitative questionnaire to 2,000 individuals (male and female). The duties and responsibilities for this assignment include: (1) acquiring all permissions necessary for conducting the survey, including relevant permissions from provincial and/or local authorities as needed; (2) selecting a random representative sample of low and middle-income households in select locations in both urban and rural areas for conducting the interviews and survey; (3) assisting in developing a set of instruments (qualitative and quantitative) in English, working closely with the World Bank research team; (4) translating all survey instruments from English to Nepali and piloting them; (5) developing a detailed field procedure plan; (6) recruiting, training, and managing enumerators and other personnel; (7) collecting data; and (8) reporting progress in survey implementation regularly and be in constant contact with the World Bank team to report and flag any potential issues, and seek corrective measures, as and when they happen.
